Make sure the rug you choose is big enough for the space you are trying to incorporate it into. One of the biggest mistakes home owners make is underestimating the size of the rug they need.

The area rug is usually, but not always, placed in the center of the room, to create a center point. You may have two center points if your room is quite large, one bigger than the other.

You should choose your area rug before you choose your wall color, as paint is inexpensive and available in any shade. Your rug is more of an investment, so you’ll want to look at something that goes well with your furniture and style.
